Client

Project Overview

A former chicken farm in the Midlands has been turned into a site of multiple industrial units. The old agricultural buildings had reached the end of their useful life. The owner wanted to give them a second life as lettable commercial space.

Tinman Steels supplied the roof and wall cladding for the conversion. The result is a smart, uniform finish that looks purpose-built rather than converted.

Overview

The Challenge

Poultry buildings are built for livestock, not for business tenants. To make the site work as industrial units, the buildings needed:

  • A weathertight envelope suitable for storage, workshops and light industrial use
  • A modern, professional appearance to attract commercial tenants
  • A durable finish that would stand up to years of use with minimal upkeep
  • A consistent look across several separate units

Our Solution

32/1000 Box Profile for Roof and Walls

We supplied our 32/1000 box profile for both the roof and the walls. The 32mm profile depth gives the sheets good strength, and the 1000mm cover width makes them quick to fix across large areas. Using one profile throughout gives every unit the same clean, crisp lines.

Heavier Gauge Where It Counts

The roof sheets were supplied in 0.7mm steel. A heavier gauge gives the roof extra strength and rigidity, where it takes the most punishment from the weather. The walls were supplied in 0.5mm, which is well suited to vertical cladding and keeps costs sensible across a large surface area.

Plastisol Coating in Anthracite RAL 7016

Every sheet was finished with a Plastisol coating. Plastisol is a thick, tough coating with a textured finish. It resists scratches, knocks and weathering, making it a popular choice for working commercial and industrial buildings.

The client chose Anthracite (RAL 7016). This dark grey is one of the most requested colours for commercial buildings. It looks modern, hides everyday marks well and gives the units a sharp, professional finish.

Project

The Result

Over six months, the old chicken farm was transformed into a set of modern industrial units. The buildings now have:

  • A fully weathertight steel roof and wall envelope
  • A consistent Anthracite finish across every unit
  • Durable, low-maintenance cladding built to last
  • A contemporary look that appeals to commercial tenants

This project shows how steel cladding can breathe new life into redundant agricultural buildings, turning them into valuable commercial space.
